HCSO traffic stop leads to drug bust & arrest

From the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office:

On February 1, 2024, at approximately 12:30 pm, Corporal Darius Johnson of the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office observed what appeared to be a window tint infraction on a vehicle driven by Alfredo Barcenas of Wauchula. Acting on this observation, Deputy Clemente located the vehicle and conducted a routine traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies detected the odor of marijuana, prompting a more thorough investigation. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed multiple small baggies, a scale, and a green leafy substance. Barcenas, when questioned about the contents of his pockets, produced a wallet, a medium-sized baggie of a green leafy substance, and a single dollar bill.

Corporal Johnson, noticing a “bulge” in Barcenas’ jacket pocket, conducted a further search, revealing another bag containing a clear glass pipe, a red baggie with a crystal-like substance, and a bag containing a white powdery substance. Field tests were conducted on the substances, resulting in the identification of 22.4 grams of cocaine, 2.3 grams of methamphetamine, and 26.8 grams of marijuana.

Alfredo Barcenas now faces multiple charges, including Possession of Drug Equipment, Possession of Marijuana over 20 grams, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Cocaine, and Cocaine Distribution within 1000 feet of a place of worship.

Sheriff Vent Crawford commends the diligent work of Corporal Johnson and Deputy Clemente in locating and removing these dangerous drugs from our streets. The Hardee County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community through proactive law enforcement efforts.
